Nothing delights like unexpected pleasure…

“It is good to love many things, for therein lies the true strength, and whosoever loves much performs much, and can accomplish much, and what is done in love is well done.” – Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890)

SeaWatchers700The pleasure of selling my work is one of the last big thrills to me as artist; learning that someone else likes what I’ve created enough to part with their presumably hard-earned cash in order to live with a piece of my heart, I mean ‘art’. I placed the above artwork – Sea Watchers – a 7″ x 10″ colored pencil drawing in a hand-painted frame, in the DaVinci Art Alliance’s latest show that’s up this July – Something Cool – and it sold! Quelle surprise et quelle délice! Thank you Regina B. The art was created a few years ago inspired by a memory of a summer love affair while I was living in Portsmouth NH; truly one of those unexpected pleasures of my middle years that brought great delight to the season. Thanks GB for such wonderful memories…

InsideLookingOutCopy2WPThe other painting which I entered in the DaVinci show was Inside, Looking Out: #1, variation #2 – NightWorld. Canvas measures 20″ x 16″, framed in antique oak. I received some great compliments from a number of friends on this painting as well. Based on my 2nd oil painting done back in 1973, looking out the backdoors of the barn in Dayton where I grew up, this one was painted with acrylics instead of oils; another exploration learning the advantages and limitations of the medium. There’s something mysterious and transforming about passing through a doorway into another space. Symbolically it’s like entering another dimension, or reality if the illusion is well enough created.

I’ll stick with my camera for numerous reasons. The added plus is having cut flowers in the house from my own garden, a treat worth sharing

Enjoy the Sunshine!
