2013. The new year’s first piece of AldenArt got started Thursday January 3rd with a pencil drawing on masonite panel, using a 36″ diameter circle that had been primed white last fall soon after I found it. The composition is based on a 1978 drawing on black paper, done with colored pencils. This new piece is likewise titled Whence? Whither? Why? in tribute to the corpus of art inspired by the Big Questions, the ones that drove Gauguin to create one of his greatest masterpieces, and others of us to create what we can. Over the first weekend in January, I added color to the piece which is still very much in progress.
