So said the great modern dancer Martha Graham (1894-1991). I came across her quote in an ad in Playbill magazine, picked up at a performance of the American Ballet Theater in NYC, ca. 1977. The ad was memorable – a full-page highly-polarized close-up photo of Martha-in-black looking up into the light, with the text type reversing out to white against the black background at the bottom of the page. I was immediately taken with the poetic truth of the statement, making it part of my internal vocabulary of inspiration. An affirmation for withstanding the storms of self-doubt.
