September 2013. Two nights before leaving Dayton to return to Philadelphia, I had dinner with Harold and Elizabeth Stover, friends of many years, dating back to my time in New York City in the 70s. Before dinner, Liz took me for a drive to take a look at the property their daughter Lucy had just purchased a few miles away. On the return trip, she stopped at a lovely spot overlooking a section of Saco River valley that I had never seen. Upriver for Skelton dam a few miles, the backed-up waters created a virtual lake reflecting the advancing afternoon. The next day, with benefit only of the impressions remembered, I painted today’s art.
