from the Christmas Past series, markers on half-tone photostat, 12.75″ x 10.25″ • $130

2009. Looking forward to the end of a particularly intense year of change, my thoughts again turned to a seasonal question: what to create as my annual holiday greeting? Looking backward 30 years, I rediscovered a black and white half-tone photostat made from a pencil drawing originally created for Harold Stover’s ’78 Christmas concert.

Xmas78-2ndChurchWPI had planned to color the half-tone photostat years before, but had never taken the time to start, let alone complete the project. It was one of those ideas that lay dormant for years in mind only. Thus it was that in November ’09, inspired by the past, I made the time to colorize what had existed simply as black and white with shades of gray. At left the advertising flyer for which the art was originally created, December 1978 thirty-five years ago. What’s that about Tempus Fugit??
