Cole Farm #2oil on linen canvas

collection of Marge & Dewey
Thompson

Started April Fools 4.1.12 Palm Sunday. Bright, primary colors came to the fore during Easter week. I focused on a painting of a view familiar to me from infancy. Based on photographs taken in October 2010 while I was in Dayton. Fall maples were at their peak. One particular afternoon the sun angled in from the west illuminating the fields, trees, and horses with spectacular richness. I’ve tried to capture some of that magic in this painting done a year and a half after the fact. Finished and Signed on 4.19.12, my brother Clark’s 76th birthday. In late May, the painting moved on consignment out to EarthShack, a crafts gallery in Mullica Hill, NJ.

On the first of January my first-cousin Marge and her husband Dewey, who live in Wisconsin on the bluffs of the Mississippi, let me know they wanted to buy the painting. Wahoo! what a way to begin the year, with an offer to buy one of the paintings featured in my first Holiday Review of Arts that I had started Saturday 12.1.12. I achieved my aim, which was to sell at least one piece of art through this medium. As of the 16th of January, I’ve sold 3 pieces. I think the series is destined to become an annual.

Hi Alden,
Beautiful painting! I’ve seen the location many times, especially when attending Andy’s Agway Pumpkin Launch in the field to the left. You captured the scene and the mood perfectly. I especially appreciate the illuminations of the various greens in the pasture and autumn colors in the trees. The horses expound the peaceful setting. I particularly like the vigilantly attentive one on the left who is curious about the passerby.
I’m glad Marge & Dewey are the proud new owners of the picture. It has a lot of sentimental value which they will cherish in addition to its artistic qualities.
Congratulations on your sale of 4 paintings this month!
Sincerely,
Janet Gaudette.

Thanks so much Janet for your thoughtful and complimentary comments of the painting of that oh so familiar scene.
