A Week of Watching Tiger Lilies Grow…

8DaysWPIn the back-yard garden with its clump of six traditional tiger lilies, the first of the twenty-one maturing buds unfurled last Tuesday, the Ides of July, and by the weekend all six plants – one with five buds, another with four, the other four stalks with three buds each – were blooming profusely. A week later, today Tuesday July 22nd – my California friend Kristie Weston’s birthday, and what would have been my dad’s 104th birthday – the first two buds to bloom had already dropped their petals, with only four buds remaining to unfurl. I figured it was time to create a really extraordinary bouquet while the tigers were full-blown, so I could enjoy them inside for a few days before they pass into this summer’s history. Snip, snip, snip, snip, snip, snip…voilĂ . Below, more favorite photos from the Week of the Tiger.
